Oprah's Legend's Ball Honors African American Women

In 2000, I was honored with the opportunity to create a gown for Miss Ruby Dee. She and Ossie Davis were receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Screen Actor's Guild. This was my red carpet moment and my gown walked arm and arm on stage with not only the legendary Mr. Ossie Davis, but also Mr. Tom Hanks escorted Miss Dee to the stage.

The Fushia 4ply silk patchwork coat with scattered beading and the matching sleeveless dress was a hit.

Now fast forward to Oprah's Legends Ball. 20 African American Women were honored by Oprah in grand style. Of course, it's Oprah for Gods sake. Anyway, Miss Ruby Dee was honored amongst women like Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Mya Angelou and more. It was a night to remember and everyone is saying it was like the Oscars. Star studded, red carpet and all. I had again an opportunity of a lifetime and created Miss Ruby Dee's white 4ply silk gown (it was a black and white ball). The gown was a sleeveless bias cut and a large shawl was created that she wore draped to the back and tied with a black silk ribbon. I think she looked fabulous and she was so great to work with. I will never forget this moment.
