Get Ready For Your Close Up

Get the lip liner ready cause here is your chance.

Newlyweds: The First Year (working title) is an 8-part docu-series for Bravo based on a successful UK project that aired last year. The series will capture the experiences that come with the first year of marriage, from the typical first year milestones to events and happenings that are unique to each couple. We are seeking professional and sophisticated couples from all walks of life and backgrounds, from first or second marriages to arranged marriages to gay marriages and everything in between. The only common bond between our couples will be the experience of marrying their partners for the first time. Couples won't know each other or interact with each other during this project, and all shoot dates will be pre-arranged and coordinated with production. Couples must be getting married in the next 2-3 months and live within a 3-hour radius of New York City and Los Angeles. Couples must be able to discuss new areas in their lives in which they expect and hope to grow during their first year together.

Get Ready For Your Reality Close-Up

Now before you start rehearsing your temper tantrums and softening the ugly cry, this reality (documentary style) show wants to capture the originality and essence of each ceremony and then further explore what it means to make a commitment in 2011.

They are looking for all kinds of couples with diverse backgrounds, cultures, ethnicity's and same sex weddings.  This is the beginning stages of this project and being interviewed is not a commitment that you will be a part of the project.
All of your info is treated in confidence and you have until the end of May to apply.  Tell your story of love, planning, and the after glow.  This is a reality show you can learn from:

We are looking for all different types of couples, wedding events, locations and points of view. It is truly an opportunity to capture the hopes and dreams, the challenges and the resistance and successes that are involved in getting married in America at such a crucial time in history

Beginning on the day of the marriage event (we're hoping to feature as many different kinds of weddings/ceremonies possible) and finishing up exactly a year later, we will film couples periodically through their newlywed year. Timewise, you can expect that it will be a combination of timed intervals (say, every four months) and family events (holidays, births, etc.) and will probably be just a few days of shooting at a time.

Each episode will be one hour long and will feature the full year of two couples at a time and will be shown on a very popular major cable channel. The commitment is less that of time than it is of the ability to honestly and openly communicate about each other and the experience of this important first year through candid and open interviews.

Saved!

Yes! Praise the Lord! Marriage can save a lives.  I had been hearing about the documentary, You Saved Me, which will tell the story of REAL HAPPILY MARRIED African-American couples.  The stats for African-Americans and marriage are disappointing to say the least.  Tired of it, the numbers game and happy that this will, at least, speak to the power of couple hood.

For those in Chicago there will be a viewing:

Bernadette Davis's "Coming To America" themed wedding came true with on My Fair Wedding with David Tutera. David needed the bridesmaids spiced up and my company Cassandra Bromfield created the African Print Shawls and Cowrie Shell pins which gave the gowns that extra spark. Look Ma, I'm On TV!

There are TONS of reality wedding shows on TV these days. From Bridezilla to Whose Wedding Is It Anyway? the list is pretty long. For those couples with just a little bit of the narcissist bug fill in the blank screen and enjoy the ride.

I wanted to see what other type of wedding shows are in the works and found something I must tell you all fabulously chic couples planning the big day. And I found:

So if you see no problem with toasting with Grandpa's basement mash. Or instead of a hand rolled cigars, the party favors are single cigarettes with one match. And you've got to love the matching gold teeth caps with engraved initials. This is the reality show for you.

Mixed Marriages

Mixed marriages come in many forms. We are all aware of the racial divide. Just this May Mildred Loving passed away at 68. Her marriage led to a landmark Supreme Court ruling overturning state miscegenation laws. Cultural, religious differences, and racial differences can make for a very dramatic results.

There are more humorous approach to a diverse union, read "Surviving My Mixed Marriage"

Mixed Marriages are common place today and it has always been said that opposites attract. Below information about the theatrical production of Platinos and Collard Greens, that tells a story of differing backgrounds that find love.

Written by David Lamb and directed by Summer Hill Seven, tells the story of two college students, Freeman, an African-American man and Angelita, a Latino woman, both forced to confront and overcome cultural and racial prejudices while defending their bond from the biases held by family and friends. From Website Platanos and Collard Greens

Another play about the complicated story of Cultural and Racial Unions.

Nellie, a nurse on a Pacific Island during WWII, falls in love with de Becque, a local planter. However, when she learns he is a widower with 2 half caste kids, she cannot accept the sitution. Meanwhile, Cable falls in love with a Polynesion girl named Liat. Cable and de Bacque go off together on a spy mission and the two women wait in hope of their return. Oprah's Legend's Ball Honors African American Women

In 2000, I was honored with the opportunity to create a gown for Miss Ruby Dee. She and Ossie Davis were receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Screen Actor's Guild. This was my red carpet moment and my gown walked arm and arm on stage with not only the legendary Mr. Ossie Davis, but also Mr. Tom Hanks escorted Miss Dee to the stage.

The Fushia 4ply silk patchwork coat with scattered beading and the matching sleeveless dress was a hit.

Now fast forward to Oprah's Legends Ball. 20 African American Women were honored by Oprah in grand style. Of course, it's Oprah for Gods sake. Anyway, Miss Ruby Dee was honored amongst women like Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Mya Angelou and more. It was a night to remember and everyone is saying it was like the Oscars. Star studded, red carpet and all. I had again an opportunity of a lifetime and created Miss Ruby Dee's white 4ply silk gown (it was a black and white ball). The gown was a sleeveless bias cut and a large shawl was created that she wore draped to the back and tied with a black silk ribbon. I think she looked fabulous and she was so great to work with. I will never forget this moment.
