Win Win

The couple who raises the most funds for Hearts 4 Africa, can win a free dream wedding valued at $35,000.

Instead of registering for the usual wedding gifts, why not invite your guests to sponsor a cause that will change the lives of many? The couple that pledges the most donations in their name through Heart 4 Africa’s first annual Wedding 4 Africa contest will not only win their dream Southern California wedding sponsored by the industry’s leading wedding professionals, they will also contribute to housing for Kenya’s needy orphans. Heart 4 Africa vows to provide the children with land on which an orphanage can be built and key self-sustaining services such as farming can be established.

Direct contributors to the Wedding 4 Africa online donation page by April 15, 2010.

The winning couple will also be invited to visit the new home built by their (and their guests) generous donations. Sign Up Here

Get On The Bus

I got on the bus today for a mammogram. I have to admit I have not had an exam in a very long time. This is dangerous because early detection is your biggest alley in fighting this deadly disease. I jumped at the chance to get examined.

I know that you stop at my bridal blog for wedding tips. This is how I tied it into the wedding stuff. Your entire bridal party can make it a breast exam party. OK get your mind out of the gutter. Make an appointment with the van for the entire bridal party and include his mom, your mom, aunties, and play aunties too. After the exam go to lunch and toast being women taking charge of your health and for healthy results.

Thank you to the staff for the exam and for the information. It was priceless.

Remember, early detection does not mean a death sentence. Knowing is growing. There is support out there for you. JUST GET ON THE BUS!!!

Did You Know?

African American women will die of breast cancer more than Caucasian women and the types of breast cancer is more aggressive. You can help and make a difference.

Circle of Promise

I recall a few months ago I had a client who's mother is a breast cancer survivor. She shared her compelling story with me during a very difficult time when I was loosing my mother. I really appreciated her "testifying" with me. When her mom passed away, she had been caring for her and then got the diagnosis. As she says, her mom moved over so she could fly. Today Vernel is full of light and love. Her daughters wedding was gorgeous and she lived and laughed to see it all which is what it's all about. Keeping our loved ones with us.

Breast Cancer has come a long way since my grandmother died of this terrible decease in the late 60's (she never smoked) but for many African American Women it is a death sentence. There is much work we can do.
The Circle of Promise vows to empower African American Women with the tools and information so they can take charge in their own lives. You can mobilize your entire bridal party, family and friends to get on board.

Pink Poetry

Photos from Forever

Creating a personal drink for the wedding is a popular feature that couples and guests get a kick out of. I found something to make it real easy and you could give back at the same time.

Odwalla has designed a special Pink Poetry Smoothie loaded with natural ingredients like Plums, Apples, Dark Sweet Cherry, and more. Yum, and the promise of $25,000 dollars to BCRF.

This is the easy part, just pour into glasses and serve the guest as they enter the cocktail hour. Your napkins can reflect the info about the special drink and the meaning. It is a win win for everyone.

Save The Ta Ta's

Breast cancer takes more than breasts from a family. It mothers, daughters, aunts, wives, friends, and a spirited person who is loved. Save The Ta Ta's is an organization that takes the approach that laughter heals and any woman going though this serious battle needs to laugh even if it is for just a moment.
Save the Ta Ta's does do serious work.
Founded by ta-tas® Brand Clothing, The Save the Ta-tas Foundation is committed to fighting cancer at every stage, including education, prevention, research, community outreach, and emotional support for those struggling with the disease.

The Save the Ta-tas Foundation
has pledged at least $50,000 over the course of two years to The Concern Foundation, partnering with them to fund a dedicated breast cancer researcher. The more funds we raise, the more researchers we can fund.

Innovative and new, this organization is determined, like its founder ta-tas® Brand, to end this devastating disease - with a smile of course! Laughter heals, log onto Save The Ta-Tas for more info

The More You Order The More You Help

This announcement came on my Facebook Wall and wanted to pass this on to you. Denise Hanney of Spa Expectations Corporation is ordering 10 now and 10 during October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Read below and connect to something important.

AnnieMae's Cheese Cake

For those who may not know Anniemae's Cheesecakes & Moore is named after my Grandmother who lost her battle with breast cancer, during breast cancer awareness month and 3 days before my birthday in October 2004. Not only did it claim the life of my grandmother but also my great-grandmother in 2001. Since then I have become an advocate for breast cancer awareness. To do my part I found a great organization Cancer Cares which offered me grief counseling in dealing with their deaths and to get a full understanding about breast cancer.

So on September 25th, my Mom's Birthday (who passed in 2006) I am launching our Sho Fly Cares Collection. We have made Pink Ribbon Ballerina Slippers with the Pink Ribbon emblem on them. A slipper will be placed on one of our large Cupcakes and presented in a pink box. Proceeds from the sale of each cupcake will go to Cancercare.Org.

Please join us in the fight against breast cancer. I know first hand how devastating this disease is and can be. Please help support an organization that helps those still battling breast cancer.
Each large cupcake & Shoe is $6

Warmly

For Gladys

I have been saying "Wear a wedding dress every day" for years. Now you can wear a wedding dress more than one day for a good cause. You can wear a wedding dress for Gladys.

For the ninth year in a row, women dressed in wedding gowns, along with approximately 100 other women in white and men dressed in black, marched through the streets of Manhattan and the South Bronx to raise awareness about domestic violence in our families and communities. This was done in remembrance of Gladys Ricart and others who have lost their lives to acts of domestic violence.

Straight From The Heart

“The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in."

Quote: Morrie Schwartz

Below an example of how to give love.

November 5th 2005, Salaam ( Takin' It To The Streets) founder of Girl Spirit Women Song Inc., made an extraordinary promise. 19 girls, representing Harriet Tubmans' 19 courageous journeys on the Underground Railroad, would be guided from girlhood to womanhood. Salaam's promise is to raise 1 million dollars for their college tuitions. This financial promise also includes making the girls scholastic and social ready for the big step into womanhood. This is quite an undertaking that you can share in:
Ask your guest to make a donation in leu of gifts ( you have the love of your life it's all you need)
In leu of favors make a donation, have the stationer make place cards about the donation. Your guest then will have information to give on their own.
This idea of giving can work with any of your favorite charities.
