Beautiful Work Of God

Munaluchi the name of  a new bridal magazine that highlights the beauty and culture of the African Diaspora, is a combination to two names when combined means Beautiful Work of God.  The bridal market has had beautiful images of weddings but lacks a bit of color and cultures for people of color.  Munaluchi picks up that slack.  Here editor and chief,  Jackie Nwobu, in an interview on Positively Black.

Munaluchi, A Dream Come True

Munaluchi Bridal

You are a woman of color and you're getting married. This prompts you to take a trip to the newsstand, you come to a complete halt. How can a couple tie in a Nigerian, Kenyan or South African wedding tradition into their nuptials? Jumping the broom is not for everyone nor is it the only way to add a bit of Afrocentricity to the wedding. To answer this query enter Munaluchi Bridal, catering to the bride who craves culture and style..
Munaluchi will be launching the US, UK, and Africa and will be on sale January 1, 2010. Look for Munaluchi Bridal at major retailers like Borders, Barnes and Nobles, Walgreen's and more.

A magazine filled with beautiful wedding ideas that celebrate the elegance and beauty from the continent of Africa, it's a dream come true.

1200 Guest, Wonderful!

Martha Stewart Weddings

I recently picked up a "Destination Weddings" issue featuring the wedding of Marcus Samuelson to Maya Haile. Born in Ethiopia, raised in Europe and moved to New York to find that love can be found far away from home with someone who is from home. Marcus, a chef and co-owner of Aquavit and C.House in Chicago and Maya a model, have a world of choices for a wedding in grand style. They chose to go home, Ethiopia.
They planned two ceremonies, one traditional Catholic and the other, that included a three hour journey to Maya's family's home. That journey took 3 hours, a few flat tires, and 1200 people to celebrate. Tradition here (US) is guests are asked to RSVP so the couple can plan accordingly. However in Ethiopia when there is a celebration, everyone is invited and that is where the fun begins.

I loved this couple trading luxury for tradition and getting both. This was grand Afrocentric style straight from the Motherland.

Colures Magazine

I happened to walk into a magazine store in Brooklyn, to show a friend an article in magazine. Then I saw a dusty pink tinted cover with a perfectly made up face. At first, I thought it was W, but the logo was different.

The subtitle:
"Style & Culture For The Modern Women Of Colour" BEYOND BLACK

The pages that were filled with extraordinary images and articles.
Loved reading about Philadelphia's born Charita Jones, lovingly known as Momma Cherri. Her Soul Food Restaurant located in Brighton, less than an hour from London, is a top tourist attraction. Colures even included some of her recipes.

This issue has a wonderful wedding section that includes getting married abroad. Of course the images are delectable (even if they don't have any of my dresses).

I was completely blown away, it's all so delicious, so fabulous, so black.

Wedding Dresses Magazine

Cultural I Do's
At first glance you know something is different.
Wedding Dress magazine has devoted an entire Spring/Summer issue to the hottest cultural wedding trends. I've even made it to the page 34 and 180. Pick up an issue, it's one of a kind.

More and more bridal magazines are showing off diversity in a chic way. Be sure to take a look at Charlese Wedding Magazine. I have written an article which appears on page 9, titled "A Colorful Wedding Dress".

Year Of The International Bride

Charlese, an event planner originally from New Orleans, has created a bridal magazine that takes you around the world. She says in her Editor's Notes "Take a glimpse of the world. It's at your fingertips". She is right, a wedding is about a vision a couple have for themselves. In her Spring 2007 issue she challenges you to be bold, dream big, and believe in your vision.

Ch arlese Wedding Magazine is available all over the world and you can pick up a free issue at Cassandra Bromfield's Company.
