Cake Topper?...Just The Two of Us

I love unique things for weddings and found these little statues, Just The Two Of Us,  which I thought were perfect for cake topper or a centerpiece for the couples table.  The beauty of this item is it can become a part of the household after the wedding.

Martin O'Neill is a ceramic artist of 30 years.  He studied in Manchester, England and his primary work is pitfired and raku forms.  Talk to Mr. O'Neill about his work and see more from his etsy shop.

Love For A Liftime

Love For A Lifetime

Thomas Blackshear calls his style Afro-Nouveau. In his own words, "Ebony Visions reflects not only my own visions as a black man, but also unique visions of black people. The designs reflect visions we all share, regardless of the color of our skin."
"My work is meant transcend all racial and cultural lines, because in essence, the physical and expression in my sculptures are all part of the human experience."

The piece above is called Love For A Lifetime and it is a not only a symbol of strength in love, unity, and culture, but it is also keepsake and an investment.  This piece shown here is $225.00 on Amazon.com

I have found some creative toppers (and so has African Bride).  The search has led us to some very creative designers.  However, I don't want to leave the traditionalist out in the cold.
This lovely porcelain couple is from Ebony Enchantment, creates this fairytale like couple. Perfect for weddings filled with love and the price is perfect just under $30.00.

Ndebele Bridal Cake Toppers

The beautiful dolls are hand beaded by the South African Ndebele.   Read more about the designers, Sizakele Creations

Swahili African Modern

In Ndebele culture, a young woman cannot marry unless her groom presents her family with labola, a dowrie typically comprised of an agreed-upon number of cattle. On her wedding day, an Ndebele bride wears a beautiful beaded train called an inyoka. Upon her marriage, she wears an elaborate beaded apron and wraps her shoulders in a blanket to signify her status as a married woman.

Swahili African Modern

The handcrafted Ndebele groom is dressed in modern finery for his wedding day. He has paid his labola, or dowry, and now awaits his beautiful bride.

In Your Own Image

The Brown Bride posted their cake topper find from I Do Cake Toppers

Love the idea of a custom designed cake topper.  This way you don't need to wrestle with a plastic wedding couple dipped in brown paint.  It is really in your own image.

Ask And You Shall Receivith

The bride and groom toppers measure 4 inches high by five wide or the smaller is about 3 1/2 inches both ways.

I have been in a search for unique and cultural cake toppers. In a recent post, Dancing Hearts, the wheat hearts that are intertwined are perfect for a wedding that is themed, green, natural, or even cultural.
The husband and wife etsy shop does not have any cake toppers displayed so I asked if they make cake toppers and she came up with these items. I just love the work and thought it was unique and interesting.

Reids Weeds
is a husband and wife team effort. He, John, does all kinds of wood working and she, Kathy, creates wheat sculptures.

Dancing Hearts

I love something different and creative. These Dancing Hearts are created by Reeds Weeds on Etsy

Dancing Hearts
Hearts are a common design. And in the old days were said to have been exchanged between lovers at harvest time. Of course traditions varied from place to place, the young man would have worn his heart on his belt, and the young woman, in her hair.

The Dancing hearts here intended design is a wall hanging but I think it could be used as a cake topper with a little ingenuity. See more of Reed Weeds Designs.

A Really Sweet Idea

As you know The African Bride and I are in a search for African American Cake toppers. This is a REALLY SWEET idea and although this seems like a stretch, wink wink, it is truly for couples who are sweet on each other. It only is about 2" so it may be cute on a cupcake.
The search continues....

Image Is Everything

If you put in a search for Afrocentric Cake toppers, there are quite a few toppers that are chocolate couples in wedding gear and with a few spattering of couples in African Clothing. I should be satisfied that there are some great cake toppers available, but I STILL WANT MORE!

Back in the early part of August, The African Bride questions the wedding market on African Inspired Cake Toppers?. Then Revisited the question in her post Cake Toppers Revisited. This inspires a search for the best and most creative culturally inspired cake toppers available.
Let me know what you find.
Drop me a line, a link and I will spread the word. cabcomp@aol.com

Sit Right On Top Of Your Cake

You just never know what you will find on the web and I thought this was so cute (found this on Black Bride.com).

Cake toppers have been getting pretty creative. Gone are the plastic bride and groom who resembles no one at all (although it can be kind of kitchy for some of those 50's themed weddings)

Now, you can take your own images of you as kids and have a cake topper made. Picture Yourself Graphics has made you two look like childhood sweethearts. Just log on and see how they take two separate photos and "marry" you two as kids.

It's a fun idea and an item that will keep everyone wondering and creates a keepsake you will continue to enjoy for years to come.

Be sure to take a look at their other products too, equally fab.
