Just Add A Little Cowrie

Many Brides today are creating their fantasy dress using cultural touches. This can mean shells, adinkra symbols, or even special fabrics used to create the gown. Some brides are not subtle at all they a want a bold accents and embellishments. Indian brides wear beautifully colorful ornate saris and English brides have horseshoes embroidered into their dress for good luck. More and more African American brides are seeking designers that will incorporate an African eliments into their dream dress.

For Beth and Harold's Grand Afrocentric Wedding, her silk satin gown was beaded with glass beads and gold Ankhs (an ancient Egyptian symbol the of life read more) and hand painted with gold swirls. The train was also painted with gold Ankh's.

However some brides have opted for a simple touch like just adding a little cowrie.

The dress in the front, one of Cassandra Bromfield's samples, was purchased by a bride when she tried it on and it fit perfectly. Just one problem, she really needed that Afrocentric touch. Cassandra added the cowrie shells and some small gold ankhs which makes the gown just right for this modern cultural bride.

You can have your gown embellished or even just purchase a cowrie shell pin large or small. This is a perfect accessory to a dress missing the cultural feature that is important to you. (read Her Wedding Her Way)

Mini Cupcakes A Bite Of Perfection

Cupcakes are all the rage for weddings these days. As a matter of fact, they are probably in danger of being passe`. But, don't get your tulle in a bunch, I just love the bite size mini cupcakes. It's just enough and you don't have to feel so guilty eating one (if you eat five, you need to get on your knees). There are tons of companies that make mini cupcakes or there are recipes for you to give it a try yourself. Even the mini size gives you a little more room to be creative with the flavors. Cut your cake, but serve your guest a mini buffet of different flavors. I know they will be taking more than one, but they will get a kick out all the new and fun flavors.

Your Dissappointment Is Also A Blessing

The Crocodile Lives in the water,
yet breathes the air.
Demonstrating an ability to adapt to circumstances.
A friend of mine shared with me a story of a woman who had a disappointment, a loss that led her to the blessing and gained really big with an Oprah experience.
Planning a wedding is ripe and fertile ground for disappointments to flourish.
For example: You order red roses for your bouquets. The florist has a hick-up and the red roses are not available.
You: What!? *#%$? !!
The Florist and the Blessing: They replace the flowers with a more expensive flower and makes a financial restitution. (this may or may not always happen)
P.S. You can still get married with out flowers, adapt to the circumstances.
Example: This has happened to me and here's what I did.
The Bride looked beautiful in her dress. It fit well and with one problem, the gown was 1" too short. Now, this may sound like just a little bit, but to a bride 1" looks like 4" and that will ruin any wedding day.
The Blessing: The bride got financial restitution.
More Blessings: She called me to say she looked beautiful on her day.
My Blessing: She sent the balance of the discount I had given her back.
Your wedding will be filled with more highs, if you look at that way.
Treat your dissappointments like water on a window pane, just let it roll on by.
The Blessing is always clearly there.
