There has been a lot of press and air time given to J and K's wedding. I included got in on the fun posting the wedding march on my blog. However, I felt I have seen exciting walks down the aisle from people of color and they just never get the same attention. That prompted me doing a bit of research and I found a discussion on Offbeat Bride, titled "Offbeat Bride and Diversity". The conversation began in October of 2008 which some asked the question "Where are all the Offbeat Brides of Color?" and I just added my 2 cents yesterday. You can read all about it here, but in the meantime my post got a response from Ariel (OBB) with a link to this video which was posted on her site. I am so glad that we had dialogue.

Thank- You I Do Black Love

I recently cam across this blog post "I should be writing thank you cards right now" from I Do Black Love, Or, I Do; Black Love. It is the period on the big celebration of love fun and family. Plus you don't want everyone to think you are completely narcissistic, send out a heartfelt thank you.

Some of you may have a guest list over 200, I feel your pain, so hand writing thank yous is a daunting task. Take a little sting out of the job by having the stationers that printed your invites also include the thank you notes. I know you should add personal touch so do just that, create a poem that is personal. See my poems below:

Wedding Thanks

The limo was late. The DJ was drunk and somebody's escort smelled like a skunk. We drank cheap wine and ate baked chicken. We still thought it was finger licken'. After cutting the cake of confection and cream. She threw the bouquet and every women screamed. The men were louder when he threw the garter. It was so much fun A lot to remember. The best day of our lives.

For being by our sides

With much Love

Jumped

We've jumped the broom
Cut the cake
Did a little dancing
Until it was late

We had so much fun from beginning to end

The Vegan Bride: Last Fitting and Pick up

We've come a long way since I first wrote about this Lia, The Vegan Bride (see all the posts) in January 2009. We have had our last fitting a Lia is probably lying on any one of the Beaches in Barbados or running around town enjoying her family giving she and Kalani much love. Which ever it is this cool, calm and collected bride is just about 4 days away from the big day (July 11, 2009).

The dress is a silk satin faced organza and has a full tie dyed skirt. When she came for the fitting for the hem I admitted I was worried about the original colors that she selected for the skirt. The yellows seemed too harsh and I thought didn't blend with the softness of the top.


She approved the softer yellow dye and then she came with her shoe (J Crew gold). Lia wanted just a very simple not a lot of fuss and she wanted to be able to wear it with her party jumpsuit (white and is really very nice) that she will wear later after the reception.

The dress is gorgeous and this is all you are getting.
You and I will wait together for the formal photos and I can't wait to see it unfold.

Lia has gone back to her mother land, Barbados, to get married. That's where she was born and raised. With that home town advantage her mom and wedding planner from The Crane has taken care of organizing everything, while Lia and Kalani were here in NY working. There is much to do before the big day. Which is July 11, 2009. We are getting close.

The Crane offers a wide range of services and for this couple the menu was a particular concern. The Crane was able to offer them a Vegan menu for them and some of their guest and also a buffet of delicious delights, which will include meat. They wanted every guest to enjoy to themselves without forcing their lifestyle on them.

Confetti That You Can Rent

At 8:30 in this morning, a friend of mine called me hysterically laughing. She asked if I had heard of the movie Confetti. I had not, she was so sure that I would enjoy it and so I believe you will too. It was released in September, but now available on video. The premise is, Confetti (bridal magazine) follows 3 couples that duke it out for "The Most Original Wedding Of The Year". The themes include nudists, a Busby Berkly musical, and a couple of clowns the conclusion can only be hilarity. It is Confetti that you can rent. Watch the trailer below:
