Financial Wedding Shower 2007

Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater
Had A Wife and Couldn't Keep Her

See the problem? This man has spent all his money on pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, pumpkin this that, anything pumpkin. He has no money to care for his wife, and to add insults to injury he finds a squash large enough to keep her in. The poem goes on and say "and there he kept her very well". WHAT!! There's more, this pumpkin eating fool had a second wife (I guess the first wife woke up), but he didn't love her, because he couldn't read or write! After learning his ABC's, Peter did love his wife very well. Now I am sick, both women married a man with a pumpkin fetish, was broke and illiterate. What in the world was so attractive about Peter?

I joke about this silly nursery rhyme but the truth is; most marriages end in divorce because of finances. Before you go down that aisle all dolled up, both of you must have a conversation about money.

Do You Remember?

Upon Napoléon Bonaparte return from Moscow, defeated, busted, and worn out, he says "There is one step between the sublime and the ridiculous".

Hydarnes, Commander of the Immortals: [Xerxes has sent an emissary to demand the Spartan surrender] yesterday, we only probed your positions. When we attack today, our arrows will blot out the sun! Leonidas, Spartan King: Good; then we will fight in the shade.

Oral history is good when it's good. Even Alex Haley's Roots was based on this same tradition. But what will your grandmother say when she catches the bouquet. Or will you really remember what your dad said to you during the first dance? Who said what to who and was it profound, funny or did it have everyone on the floor laughing. Life On Record makes sure all the good lines are safely stored for historians to retell it just like it was, when it happened, way back when. After the CD is created from your event you don't have to worry if something is lost. They have a backup for you to retrieve a new CD. Those loving voices of family and friends can never be silenced. What's really beautiful is being able to hear loved ones voices when they are gone.

It's easy to use, priced well, and preserves' family memories.

Let's Dish

It's a common pass time. Everyone does it. Everyone needs to do it.

We may even gossip while we do it. Well, I have found something to talk about.

Jeanne-Koepp-Keramik creates a fabulous collection of tableware. Her pieces are filled with unusual images.
Fish swim in and out of tea cups.

Women appear on teapots and vases

in fascinating attire. You must see all the ladies. The artwork reminds me of Romare Beardon.

This collection is so exciting this is one of the items that is sure to go on your list of must haves. If you have linked to her site, you by now know she is in Germany. Don't worry, her products are available all over: Shops , including Yu' here in NY.

Glowing Nails Under Street Level

I needed a manicure BAD! There was a salon close to the studio, but I saw a brief up and down look, detected a bit of an attitude, and was told there was a 20 minute wait. No thanks! I then remembered passing a new salon around the corner below street level. You could almost miss it. Glow Nails is located on 328 West 44th Street and when I walked in I was greeted with a lovely welcome. They offered me some herbal tea or water with my simple manicure.
Although they had many color choices I used my own, by nubar.

nubar uses no Formaldehyde, Phthalate, or Toluene. Plus the color was
great, Pink Cami (FM 119). It's a sheer iridescent pink and is part of their Support The Cure 4 Pack. The colors are perfect for any wedding.

Thank God Glow Nails, did not have someone looking like they are performing surgery on nails. You have seen this in other salons. They are wearing masks while performing some service. I keep wondering, shouldn't we all have masks on? If it's bad for you, it's bad for me. Glow Nails didn't have any of that. They also have a number of other services, but the reason to go now is that for the month of August there is a sale on services.
Go down under the street level and enjoy.

Colures Magazine

I happened to walk into a magazine store in Brooklyn, to show a friend an article in magazine. Then I saw a dusty pink tinted cover with a perfectly made up face. At first, I thought it was W, but the logo was different.

The subtitle:
"Style & Culture For The Modern Women Of Colour" BEYOND BLACK

The pages that were filled with extraordinary images and articles.
Loved reading about Philadelphia's born Charita Jones, lovingly known as Momma Cherri. Her Soul Food Restaurant located in Brighton, less than an hour from London, is a top tourist attraction. Colures even included some of her recipes.

This issue has a wonderful wedding section that includes getting married abroad. Of course the images are delectable (even if they don't have any of my dresses).

I was completely blown away, it's all so delicious, so fabulous, so black.

Takin' It To The Streets

When I met Salaam and Trevor, I knew this was no ordinary couple and their wedding was going to be an explosion of creativity. With each description of the event they were secure in their ideas and didn't care about traditions or expectations. The love they share was their only motivation.

7:00am on July 1, all the guest met at Salaams apartment lobby. They then took to the streets of Harlem. Led by Latin Musicians singing and dancing up St. Nicholas to Harlem School of the Arts.

The couple followed filled with the spirit. Their garments were in perfect harmony. Trevor's suit designed by Ron and Ron. The fabric came from Italy, it blended perfectly with Salaam's explosion of color. Salaam came to me with two elements that was very important to her. She wanted patchwork and her top had to be crocheted lace. Her skirt was fitted and flared patched in silk charmuese. The colors were royal blue, red, soft golden yellow, and a yellow copper. The top was the challenge, finding the right vintage lace pieces was not that easy, but Salaam was patient and at the 11th hour the right combination was found. Her top was made from a large vintage lace doilies with smaller ones completing the shape. The back was secured with silk ties. Her skin was flawless, which made this look even more exciting.

Entering Harlem School of the Arts, there was a path that was dusted with rose petals. salaam and Trevor greeted guest as the band played. The seats were filled up facing a beautiful waterfall.
A Saxophone solo walked in accompanied by the thunderous sounds of water hitting rock. The coupled followed on a white cloth showered with rose petals. They took center stage. The mothers opened the ceremony with loving thoughts, advice, and prayer. Then one by one family and friends spoke on subjects like trust, faith, balance, friendship, and love.

With each piece of advice, couples in the audience snuggled a little closer.

As a young man sang, Salaam got teary. Then they made their promises to each other. This included support, trust, and of course love. With that, the fathers closed the ceremony with their blessings and the rings were exchanged. With a kiss they were married by friends, family, and God.

Salaam and Trevor honeymooned in Southeast Asia. Their first splendid week was spent at the Tao Gardens.
