As Seen On

Just one of the shawls featured on My Fair Wedding

Bernadette Davis's "Coming To America" themed wedding came true with on My Fair Wedding with David Tutera. David needed the bridesmaids spiced up and my company Cassandra Bromfield created the African Print Shawls and Cowrie Shell pins which gave the gowns that extra spark. Most of all the bride was happy and when David asked how her best friend felt she said "I feel like I will be representing a Queen".

Spoonin'

I found these spoons in a local African shop (J and S Imports, see below for info). The spoon can have duel roles, as a favor and as escorts cards. If your wedding has a culturally inspired then there are few choices, I think the spoons close the gap.

These wood spoons are $2 to $3 and if you are buying a large quantity you can bargain for a better price.

After you have done your seating arrangements make the strips with the guests names on the computer. Cut them out and wrap around the arm of the spoon using a glue stick to seal. You may need to trim the paper strips some. Take some dried fruit, a generous teaspoon full. Put that in a clear plastic wrap and make a little pouch then tie at the top with a Raffia string. Trim the top of the little pouch. Place a piece of double stick tape at the bottom of the pouch and place that in the spoon.

Let' See How He Does It

Upcoming episode of My Fair Wedding this week is Bernadette and Lawrence. Her wedding inspiration is African inspired, which has my attention. I've seen a lot of unique weddings covered on TV and although there is a spattering of Broom Jumping, not much more in the way of, over the top Afrofabulous.
So now enters David Tutera, of My Fair Wedding. The premise of the show is that the bride presents their wedding ideas, which are deemed ummmm tacky. David shows the bride 3 ideas for say for flowers, bridesmaids dresses, and even the brides dress. The decision is all his and the couple doesn't know what he has done until the day of. It's David, so it will be Fantastic!. I am very excited to see how this he takes this couple ideas, which I am sure is very nice to Majestic Motherland Marvelous. I'll be watching and I hope you will too.

Adding My 2 Cents

This is the time of year that you will be making memories, but if you are also planning a wedding, it can be like holiday magic of describing all the exciting wedding elements that you are creating. Or it will be a few months of Know it All's, Wanna Be's, Kind of, Used To Be A Wedding Expert Advising you on this that and what ever. Everyone has an idea that they want to share and believe me there are gems, jewels, and treasures in their suggestions.

However, it is your wedding and you had no plans of wearing white, covering up that tattoo, or cutting off your locs. As a free thinker you have decided to be just that, free of the traditions that you are not connected to.

Traditions do come from a good place. Their meanings are shrouded in good luck and lessons for the couple to have a successful marriage. So when you make changes many people worry about the success of your relationship. Then again I think people just want give unsolicited advice because that is the job of a Know it all, Wanna Be, Kind of Use to be a Wedding Planner adviser, which is add in their 2 cents, and I bet you'll want to give some change back.

An Afrocentric Flair

The Kwanzaa Bride and I are on a journey to create the most FABULOUS Afrocentric Wedding. At one of our "Show and Tell" fittings. she brought her shoes for the second drop dead dress I am making.

Although they were very nice, I thought they were lacking a bit of .....well, Afrocentricity. We talked about gluing a cowrie shell in the front, but I worried it could fall off, plus it wasn't enough pizazz.

I also wanted to add beading. By poking a hole into the front, the beads were wired on along with the one cowrie shell. The Kwanzaa Bride says you can sell her anything with a cowrie shell.

The shoe looks great and will go perfectly with the dress.
