Saying I Do

Saying I Do
Today's couples say I Do in the most creative ways and there are some that follow their cultural traditions of the past.  From being married by friends (who can be ordained online) to a High Mass at the family's church.  The wedding has been a statement making event for couples.
However you do your I Do's, the exhibit Saying I Do at the Detroit Historical Museum explores the history of nuptials.

Client Update

December 27th, 2009, I created two wedding dresses for Audrey Davis (dress 1 and 2).  At that time she was the Kwanzaa Bride, now The Kwanzaa Wife, see the celebration here

Audrey is the assistant artistic director of Iwa L'ewa Heritage Dance Ensemble and for Audrey's wedding it was with love they danced in celebrating the marriage of Audrey and John, (The Kwanzaa Wedding Featuring The Iwa L'ewa Heritage Dance Ensemble).

Below her recent appearance on the Fox TV news celebrating African Culture through dance.

I'm so proud.

Baby Bump Wedding Gowns

When Alicia Keys tied the knot, in her Vera Wang gown, with a very obvious baby bump, a new trend was born (pun intended).  However, maternity wedding gowns are not new.  Brides have made efforts to hide their indiscretions from the wagging fingers and tongues of family and friends.  Ms. Keys may have made it easier when couples faced with this dilemma.

Baby Bump Wedding Gown

I found out that I created a baby bump gown solely by accident.  One of our models in the Natural Bride shoot was 4 months pregnant.  At first we worried, then one of the gowns proved to hide her belly and all things went ahead smoothly.  I now have a new way to sell this dress, it is the Baby Bump Wedding Gown.

An Unexpected Retweet Thank you

I recently saw in my Twitter stream a thank you.  Thank you?, thank you for what?  After I clicked the link, I had and idea.
Most couples will give their bridal party personalized gifts, which are wonderful.  Then I saw Toms.com Twitter Thank-you.  Toms.com will give one pair of shoes away to a child in need for every pair they sell, and they are close to giving away their one millionth pair.  You can help by giving your bridal party a pair of Toms shoes.

Toms.com
Now before you go awarding me The Most Clever Idea From A Bridal Blogger Of The Year Award, Tom has a wedding page (smarty pants).  This page has a Wedding Toolkit you can easily download.  The PDF file includes ideas for you to celebrate using this unique gift idea.  The shoes range from $44.00 to a Vegan Wrap Boot for $98.00.  It is a win win win everybody wins.  Below the Thank-you video that got me all stirred up.

A Green Wedding Tip From Twitter

Ashley's Bride Guide, talked to A Delightful Day, and got this tip about left over floral arrangements.

Does your company do anything special that a green bride might want to know?
For our brides, a lot of times we will contact a local hospice company that will take their wedding day florals and rearrange them to take them to hospice patients and nursing homes for them to enjoy for the rest of their floral life! Many brides wonder what will happen to those florals, and I think that that becomes an area of waste, so this in turn allows for someone else to have a little cheer from their wedding for several days following!

This idea is not only green, it is a golden opportunity to do good.

Mackenzie's Hawaiian I Do

I received an email from a recent client  who married in Hawaii:
"We are married and home from Hawaii!  I just wanted to send you a few pics from ceremony.  My gown was faaaaaaaabuuuuulous!  Thanks for making it so special for me!!  Once I get my professional pics back, I will send them for your  site/blog.  Enjoy"

The dress was a Greek inspired gown made from layers of silk chiffon with a crystal beaded belt.

DIY: LED Tea Lights

Some facilities have ruled out candles, considering there are many videos of brides, moms, guests, grandmas, who are catching on fire.  Even my hair caught on fire at a bridal expo.  There were candles hanging from a decorative tree, which was lovely, until I backed up for some photos.  My friend saw my head smoking and screamed "YOU'RE ON FIRE!!!!!".  It was put out in time, but was too dangerous.
Now you can still have the look of a flickering candle without fire using LED lights.  They are cheap and easy to drop in a frosted glass.  You can also decorate the plain lights so they can stand alone.
Tools and Materials

LED Light Plain

Jewelry Flat nose with cuter and round nose pliers
Glue with a small opening

Copper color wire 22 gauge

Cheap Nail polish (this one was not cheap, but it was what I had)

Butterfly cut out (optional)

Small Cowrie Shells (5 per light)
Begin by painting the light with the nail polish.  You will have to do a few coats to get it opaque. Let this dry for about an hour.  While it is drying you can do the next step.

Cut the wire about 8 to 10 inches long.  If you are doing a lot, cut the amount of wires you will use.

Make a coil at one end of the wire.

Wrap this around the light bulb.  You could stop here and just add a cut out with the guest name and table number.  If you do that coil both ends of the wire.

Moving on, add the glue the small cowrie shells in a star pattern.  On the plain end of the wire sandwich the butterflies to the wire.  Let it dry for about an hour or more.

Add a card for seat assignments or you can love in different languages.

You can also to this with white glitter for those winter couples.
