Mixed Marriages

Mixed marriages come in many forms. We are all aware of the racial divide. Just this May Mildred Loving passed away at 68. Her marriage led to a landmark Supreme Court ruling overturning state miscegenation laws. Cultural, religious differences, and racial differences can make for a very dramatic results.

There are more humorous approach to a diverse union, read "Surviving My Mixed Marriage"

Mixed Marriages are common place today and it has always been said that opposites attract. Below information about the theatrical production of Platinos and Collard Greens, that tells a story of differing backgrounds that find love.

Written by David Lamb and directed by Summer Hill Seven, tells the story of two college students, Freeman, an African-American man and Angelita, a Latino woman, both forced to confront and overcome cultural and racial prejudices while defending their bond from the biases held by family and friends. Another play about the complicated story of Cultural and Racial Unions.

Just My Cup Of Tea

Jazzabon Creations

Last Saturday was Dance Africa's Annual Festival (now in it's 31'st year) of events which included Dance (Duh), Music, and the long awaited Craft Festival. For me it was like a family reunion. Meeting up with old friends and new vendors. One of the great finds was Jazzabon Creations. A friend had pulled me over to see these beautiful teapots, bowls, and serving platters and more. These unusual shapes were accented by vibrant colors, Afrocentric images and designs.

Joyce Lomax is based in Atlanta Ga., but she and her artwork is a must see at art shows around the country. Read more about Art by Joyce

When creating your gift registry be sure to add any one of Jazzabons fabulous pieces to the list. My friend purchased an over sized cup (not pictured) for her morning cereal. That's the best way to enjoy these incredible pieces, use them everyday and everyday is extraordinary.

13 Children and Still Happy

This weekend was the kind that families gather up their appetites and memories. And you begin meeting everyone before the big day. Take mental notes of who everyone is. The uncle who is a grabs too much, the cousin that's a secretary or a stripper (she likes her spandex), a nephew who is bound for a career in crime, and then his saint of a mother, who always makes a remark that makes you think "Wait a minute, I think I've been insulted".
But not all gatherings are filled with a cast ready for the carnival. This weekend I met a couple with 13 kids. YES, I SAID 13, no steps, no adoptions, one set of twins. She's even proud to say she is a grandmother (NO SHE DIDN'T LOOK LIKE A GRANDMOTHER!). It was remarkable, there wasn't any wear and tear on her body or spirit. She is beautiful, enthusiastic, passionate, and even after 13 kids (which she home schooled 6), she is still happy.
We all asked how, why, what the hell!?
Her answer "I guess am madly in love with my Husband"

Stay madly in love it is the best beauty treatment you cannot buy!

PS: I apologize for not having any pictures of this women, I was in shock I couldn't reach for the camera.

Wedded Bliss

Of course we all have seen swans used as symbols of wedded bliss. They are among many animals that mate for life. Swans make for a more beautiful imagery you can use in your invitations but there are quite a few more animals that fit this category.
These animals below may surprise you:

Gibbon apes, wolves, termites, beavers, bald eagles, brolga cranes, golden eagles, condors, pigeons, prions (a sea bird), angeler fish, black vultures,

coyotes
,
barn owls
,

French angel fish
,

sandhill cranes
,
pigeons, prions (a seabird),
red-tailed hawks
,

ospreys
,

prairie voles (a rodent)

A great artist can create a beautiful rendering of any of these animals so they can be used creatively in your wedding material. Even rodents and termites can be pretty.

Dancing Your Way In Shape

Dress by Cassandra Bromfield

It's just about crunch time and you've got to get moving, litterally. Every bride vows to loose at least 20 pounds. And many of you are resorting to some extraordinary tactics, like diet pills, starvation, and even buying dresses a size smaller ( read more from Susan Lang's article).

These unhealthy methods are not effective and are even dangerous. Why not make weight lose fun and dance your self into a new size and a beautiful new you.

Below are a few classes great for the mind, body, and spirit. Best of all they are cheap cheap cheap.

(These classes are here in NY, if know of any in any other areas around the country let me know cabcomp@aol.com)

Burning Wishes

I found a great party idea at the National Stationary Show. Have a Flying Wish Paper Party,Flying Prayer Paper see video.
How it works:
  • Write it on your Flying Prayer Paper.
  • Roll and flatten your paper, then shape it into a tube.
  • Place the tube upright on the Prayer Platform.
  • Light the top edge of the Flying Prayer Paper and watch it burn down in a small, beautiful flame.
  • At the last moment your wish magically lifts off the platform and rises to Heaven!

Sit Right On Top Of Your Cake

You just never know what you will find on the web and I thought this was so cute (found this on Black Bride.com).

Cake toppers have been getting pretty creative. Gone are the plastic bride and groom who resembles no one at all (although it can be kind of kitchy for some of those 50's themed weddings)

Now, you can take your own images of you as kids and have a cake topper made. Picture Yourself Graphics has made you two look like childhood sweethearts. Just log on and see how they take two separate photos and "marry" you two as kids.

It's a fun idea and an item that will keep everyone wondering and creates a keepsake you will continue to enjoy for years to come.

Be sure to take a look at their other products too, equally fab.

The Beautiful Search

It is considered the search of a life time. Some would consider a loving partner, with whom you will spend your life with, a search to end all searches. But, the wedding gown will make women move heaven and earth for the perfect dress. Many women can break out in hives over just the thought of this daunting task. For average size women there are racks of tulle confections, in different styles. This can still be stressful sifting through so many styles. But for the plus size bride her choices are limited in style, fabrications and in some cases bridal stores will charge an additional fee for being over a size 18. So you see why some women don't even want to shop for the dress.
Charmein Canton has decided enough is enough and has put pen to paper. Down That Aisle In Style: A Wedding Guide for Full Figured Women, this book is filled with practical advice from her many years of experience as a wedding consultant and a plus size woman herself. From head to toe you'll learn about necklines, hemlines, the whole nine yards. Every part of your wedding day should be fabulous and that begins with The Beautiful Search.

The Youngest Edorsement

I love my bubble bath!

A young lady of 8 years old had come to the studio for her custom designed gold jacket. She was having her First Communion and the jacket would be the icing on a beautiful little cotton dress her mom bought off the rack. She was a busy little girl in the studio, there is alot to see and touch. After we had decided on the right style I remembered J. Blossom had sent some samples (full size) of their all natural bath and body products for girls. I was happy to have the perfect client for the all natural bubble bath. She was delighted.

The next week I see her again for the final fitting. Her younger sister and a best friend accompanied her (Mom too). As soon as she walked into the studio she said "I love my bubble bath and I used it all up!". Boy, I'm glad I had some Banana Smoothie Lotion. The size of the bottle was great, they could all share it. Little sister got to hold the lotion and held it pretty tight. J. Blossom has got a real hit, just survey the 8 year olds.
